Adiala Jail: In a significant development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, have thwarted a potential terrorist attack on Adiala. The operation, which took place on the night of March 6, 2024, resulted in the arrest of three terrorists.
The arrested individuals were reportedly found in possession of a map of Adiala, a hand grenade, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). In addition to these, automatic weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists⁴. The terrorists are believed to hail from Afghanistan.
The operation was based on intelligence inputs. Law enforcement officers were alerted to the presence of terrorists in the area. City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani confirmed the successful operation and revealed that the police and CTD conducted the joint operation.
Following the arrests, police and other law enforcement agencies launched a search operation around Adiala Jail. The apprehended terrorists have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
Adiala Jail is a high-security prison where Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan is serving a 14-year sentence. The former prime minister has been lodged in the jail due to several cases. In January, he and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in jail on charges of illegally selling state gifts from ‘Toshakhana’.
This incident has put the jail security on high alert. The authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the jail and its inmates.
